A Thousand Miles of Concrete

Copyright Doc Pablo, enroute Sept 1992

The rhythm of the road is like a lover's pulse

Keeping my soul company

I'm a one-man moonshot solitary road rocket

Rolling 'cross the big country

I'm shining white on red, I got the cruise control on

I'm internally combusted and I'm rolling 'til dawn

26 to 84 to 70

Concrete kissing my wheels

I've got a no-late dead-date to make it into Cammy

Gotta make no matter how bad it feels

That's just the way life is, it's a sign of the times

And so I'm cutting up the road between the dotted lines

chorus:

There'll be a thousand miles of concrete between us

By the time that this day's done

And so I follow the rising moon 'til it's morning

Then I follow the rising sun

Dawn is coming early, so I'm making time

keeping my heel on the gas

I'm a one-way pipeline, rolling up the incline

Over it and out through the pass

I'm in the center lane, I've got the world to go

And now I'm rolling 'cross the border into Idaho

chorus

They say I'm doing 80, but I'm doing fine

I could keep up the pace all night

I'm on impulse control - a satellite I'm gonna roll

The Left Coast onto the right

The Terc' gets double-A, I feed her 95

We're turning twenty four hundred out in overdrive

chorus

repeat chorus (variation):

There'll be a thousand miles of concrete to travel

If I'm gonna see you soon

And so I follow the rising sun 'til it's evening

Then I follow the rising moon
